Summer Anime 2012 Season Preview: Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse (マブラヴオルタネイティヴトータル・イクリプス)

Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse is an original adult game by Age studios. It is a science fiction story with lots of mecha and battles, pretty women and cute moe. It is the sequel to the 2003 Muv-Luv instalment. The story is centred on the main female characters and their communication, development and actions within the Muv-Luv Universe. The upcoming anime has been patiently awaited by the fans of the visual novel and the original PC games as well as mecha/ecchi otaku. This, my dear readers, is my preview for this new anime TV series that will begin on July 1, 2012.

30 years have passed since the sudden attack of BETA aliens on Earth. The battle is still going on as the human race tries to rehabilitate itself. Heavy mecha crafts called Tactical Surface Fighters are the only way to challenge the invaders. These machines, though, are already ancient and quite unable to defeat the enemy. A Project entitled “XFJ” has a team of developers, scientists and test plots sent to Alaska where Soviet Union, US and Japanese squads are fighting together for humanity along with developing and attempting to create a much better, much faster and much stronger TSF human-controlled robotic weapon machineries. This is MuvLuv Alternative: Total Eclipse.

CHARACTERS:

Yuya Brdges is played by Daisuke Ono. He is a very able TSF (Tacticl Surface Fighter) from the US Army. His mother was American while his father Japanese and he has suffered a lot during his childhood.

Yui Takamura is played by Mai Nakahara. She is alo a TSF, but from Japan. She is also of the Royal Guard of her country and a sword knight of the current Shogun. She is the head of the Japanese side of the XFJ Project.

Kriska Barchenowa is voiced by Hitomi Nabatame. She is a TSF pilot from the Soviet Army. She is an able combat fighter and a part of the Soviet test flight. Her sister Inia is the only member of the team she shows some attachment towards.

Inia Sestina is played by Mamiko Noto and is in the same unit as her big sister and also an able TSF. She and Kriska are known as the “Crimson Sisters” since their combat abilities on the field and as a team are so high that almst no one can fight them equally. The young Inia has a thing for Yuya.
